Biography

Prof. d-r Panagiotis Drakopoulos, MD, PhD, is an obstetrician-gynecologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of infertility and assisted reproduction. He graduated with honors from the Medical School of the University of Athens and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University Hospital of Geneva (HUG) in Switzerland, where he also earned his official specialty certification. Prof. Drakopoulos earned a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Reproductive Medicine and a degree in Statistics in Clinical Research at the University of Geneva. He spent several years specializing in Assisted Reproductive Technology at the Center for Reproductive Medicine at the University of Brussels (CRG, UZ Brussel), one of the largest centers of its kind in the world. He is recognized as a specialist in reproductive medicine by the ESHRE (European Society of Human Reproduction) and the EBCOG (European Board and College of Obstetrics and Gynecology). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Brussels (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) on the effect of the ovarian response during in vitro fertilization, and since 2019 he has been a Visiting Professor at the University. In 2021, he also became a Visiting Professor at the University of Alexandria (Egypt).
In September 2023, he was elected Assistant Professor and coordinator of the “Obstetrics and Gynecology” course at the School of Medicine of the European University of Cyprus (EUC). Dr. Drakopoulos has authored more than 90 publications in international journals and is a guest speaker at numerous international conferences on in vitro fertilization on an annual basis. He serves as a reviewer for the most prominent journals in the field of infertility (The Lancet, Human Reproduction Update, Human Reproduction, Fertility and Sterility, etc.). In addition, he is actively involved in teaching undergraduate and graduate students both in Greece (University of West Attica, etc.) and abroad. His scientific interests focus primarily on reproductive endocrinology and strategies for improving outcomes for patients with a poor prognosis (poor responders). He collaborates with two of the largest and most innovative IVF centers in Greece: Institute of Life (Athens) and Embryolab Fertility Clinic (Thessaloniki). He remains an official clinical and scientific collaborator of the Center for Reproductive Medicine at the University of Brussels (UZ Brussels). He also works privately and maintains a medical office in Athens.
